Water tanker owners have set a deadline of seven days for the Water Board to concede their demand, which includes hike in hire charges. Otherwise the entire fleet of 674 tankers will go off the roads.

The ‘tanker bandh’ will come into force any day after expiry of the deadline, said the HMWSSB Water Tanker Owners Joint Action Committee.

The JAC wants the Water Board to enhance the hire charges for payment trips from Rs. 225 to Rs. 270 and free trips from Rs. 200 to Rs. 240 and enter into a formal agreement with the tanker owners. “Hike in hire charges has become essential after the increase in diesel price”, said Mohammed Khan, chairman, and D. Raj Sampath Rao, general secretary, JAC.

They told presspersons that though a notice was served on the Board listing out the demands there was no response from the latter.
