Rabi crop crucial for farmers, say members at IAB meeting

    KURNOOL: The irrigation authorities faced an embarrassing situation when the legislators and Members of Parliament insisted on supply of water for rabi crop under KC canal and Telugu Ganga.

    The irrigation authorities proposed to close KC canal and Telugu Ganga canal for repairs this summer at the Irrigation Advisory Board meeting here on Saturday.

    Collector M. Dana Kishore presided over the meeting while Minister for Lift Irrigation M. Mareppa, Zilla Parishad Chairman L. Venkata Swamy, Mayor S. Rahurami Reddy and legislators Varadarajulu Reddy (Proddatur, Kadapa), Ch. Ramakrishna Reddy, E. Pratap Reddy, Gouru Charita, K. Sujatha, G. Pratap Reddy, M.A. Gafoor, Saiprasad Reddy, Channa Kesava Reddyand Shilpa Mohan Reddy S. P.Y. Reddy, MP, and others were present.

    The legislators insisted that the ayacut from Sunkesula to a distance of 150 km be supported by water from Tungabhadra dam while the rest be supported by water available in the Velugodu reservoir and Alaganur balancing reservoir.
