Tension prevailed at the remote Danvaipeta village in Charla mandal on Thursday when a section of the villagers mostly tribal people climbed a water tank en masse in protest against the alleged drinking water scarcity in their village.
The protesters scaled the “defunct” overhead water tank in a symbolic protest against the “official apathy” to make the water tank operational. They raised slogans denouncing the alleged failure of the local officials to ensure electricity connection to the drinking water scheme despite their consistent pleas. They called off the agitation following the intervention of the officials concerned.
The officials assured them that Rs. 1 lakh would be released immediately to operationalise the drinking water scheme in the village.
