Water is being released to Jammulamma, Ramanpadu reservoirs for drinking purposes

Release of water to standing crops under Jurala project through right and left main canals has been stopped on Tuesday night and water is being released to Jammulamma reservoir and Ramanpadu reservoirs.

Jammulamma reservoir which is located on the right side of Jurala project caters to the drinking water needs of Gadwal town and Ramanpadu reservoir which is located on the left side of the Jurala project supplies drinking water to towns such as Kothakota, Wanaparthy, Mahabubnagar and Jadcharla.

The project S.E. Khagender told ‘The Hindu’ that water would be released to the two reservoirs for four days. He said water supply to standing crops would be resumed on Sunday. As the water level in Jurala reservoir had fallen, the release of water to rabi crop raised in the ayacut was stopped on April 16 as per the decision of the district irrigation advisory board.

But water was released again on April 25 by Minister D.K. Aruna responding to the demand of ayacutdars to release water. Meanwhile, it is learnt that there is no response to the letter of Andhra Pradesh chief secretary from Karnataka chief secretary. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary had requested his Karnataka counterpart to release at least 3 TMC ft. of water from Narayanapur dam to Jurala reservoir.
