‘It has reached out to many institutions in North coastal AP'

As part of its ‘Freedom Through Education' (FTE) campaign to provide education, the Waltair Round Table (WRT)-92 will endeavour to construct school buildings in the district. According to WRT-92 chairman Srinivas Reddy, WRT has reached out to many schools in North coastal Andhra Pradesh during the past two decades and constructed school buildings, organised medical camps and blood donation camps as part of its activities.

Among them are the municipal school at Tarluwada near Anandapuram constructed at a cost of Rs.1 lakh, a school at Madhurwada for physically challenged children (Rs.4 lakhs), a school at Gudilova (Rs.7 lakhs), a school at Kothavalasa (Rs.2 lakhs), a school at Bhimili (Rs. 8 lakhs), one at Anandapuram constructed at a cost of Rs.14 lakhs in association with the State government, the municipal school at Relli Veedhi in the city, constructed in association with the GVMC at a cost of Rs.20 lakhs, school-cum-rehabilitation centre for physically challenged people at a cost of Rs.10 lakhs in association with Navayuga Engineering at Zilla Parishad junction, school at Kasimkota (Rs.12 lakhs) and one opposite VUDA Park built in association with MLB Trust (Rs.3 lakhs). Round Table India (RTI) is a voluntary organisation with members between 18 and 40 years of age.

FTE campaign

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday with vice-chairman P. Rajesh and secretary Goli Venkat, Mr. Reddy said the nationwide FTE campaign was taken up in 1996 to provide basic infrastructure for primary education for 2.5 million children within a span of 25 years. It has an MoU with State governments for the purpose and 70 to 90 per cent support comes from the government.

The RTI Week was being celebrated from Thursday. As part of it, lunch was provided for 120 differently-abled children of Lebenshilfe school. Other programmes being organised are lunch for differently-abled children at Pedawaltair School, lunch for inmates at Shanti Ashram, plantation of 500 saplings, painting competition for inmates of Lebenshilfe, blood donation camp at PRISM College, Braille plates and CD players for visually challenged children at a school at Madhurawada.
