The National Joint Committee on Steel Industries, which held its meeting in New Delhi on Monday, failed to take any decision on wage revision for Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and Rashtriya Inspat Nigam Limited (RINL) employees after the representatives from central trade unions rejected their offer.

The date for next meeting will be finalised later.

The management offered Rs.500 crore for spending towards revised wages, contribution to pension fund and payment to contract workers. The unions sought wage revision on the lines of one done for Coal India Ltd.

“The management behaved arbitrarily. We will not accept any offer unless they agree to give minimum guaranteed benefit of 25 per cent,” CITU leader Simhachalam and INTUC union deputy general secretary Neerukonda Ramachandra Rao, said.

D. Adinarayana (AITUC), Mantri Rajasekhar (INTUC) and N. Rama Rao (CITU) attended the meeting at New Delhi.
