The State Government has sanctioned Rs 42 crore to clear arrears toward wages made out to mid-day meal cooks-cum-assistants and agencies.

The official concerned should send pending bills to the Government immediately, said district education officer (DEO) M.V.Krishna Reddy.

Mr Reddy said that 2,22,770 children studying in 3,271 government schools were being provide mid-day meal in the district.

He said gas connections had been sanctioned for 965 schools and they would all be supplied gas under the Deepam scheme.

He said the Government had also sanctioned funds for the construction of cooking sheds for midday meal kitchens and the construction of these sheds would supervised by the Mandal Education Officers.

Mr Reddy said that the indents for rice and essential commodities required by every school till March-end should be sent by the weekend. He said that two teachers and an attender involved in the smuggling of rice meant for Gollapalli Panchayat had been placed under suspension.

He said those who were involved in such irregularities in the future would have to face stringent punishment along with suspension.

He said special attention should be paid to the education and meals of the students who were all set to face the exams soon.

Quality rice for midday meals would be provided in bags with special labels, he said.
