The two leaders at war ever since the Alair bypoll debacle
Supporters of both the leaders clash at Ramannapet during the visit of Damodar Reddy
Damodar Reddy’s visit to his constituency without prior intimation irks Vuppunuthala
HYDERABAD: Taking exception to Information Technology Minister R. Damodar Reddy’s touring of Ramannapet Assembly constituency without informing him, Telangana Regional Development Board Chairman Vuppunuthala Purushotham Reddy has urged the party leadership to take action against the former.
The war of words between the two in the wake of the debacle of Congress party nominee Lazarus in the byelection to Alair Assembly seat last month, took a turn for the worse on Saturday with the supporters of Mr. Purushotham Reddy mobbing the IT Minister at Ramannapet.
They raised slogans against the Minister for blaming their leader for the defeat of Congress candidate. Followers of Mr. Damodar Reddy retaliated. At a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Purushotham Reddy said, “whenever a Minister visits a constituency, he should inform the local MLA. The Minister has created a scene in my constituency by bringing outsiders.”
He demanded that the Chief Minister and the APCC president initiate action against Mr. Damodar Reddy for gross indiscipline and denting the image of the party.
“It is not proper on his part to create trouble when the party is gearing up for the next elections,” he remarked.
The veteran Congress leader alleged that some leaders in the party were targeting him and pushing him to a corner.
Clarifying that the Chief Minister was not behind such action, he pointed out that his open support for Telangana could be a reason.
He stated that the candidature of Mr. Lazarus was finalised by the Minister but he was being blamed for his defeat.
“When he had selected the candidate, it was his duty to get him elected,” he questioned.
