Unless debate and discussion is held and people participate in it, they will not accept a decision on bifurcating the State, Rajahmundry MP and senior Congress leader Vundavalli Arun Kumar said here on Thursday.

Though he initially said there was nothing wrong in bifurcating the State, during a Meet the Press programme organised by the Vizag Journalists Forum, quoting Dr. Ambedkar’s observations in the past, Mr. Arun Kumar said that everyone must be taken into consideration when bifurcation was inevitable and the people, i.e. Parliament has to take a decision. Hence discussion must be allowed in the State Assembly, Legislative Council and in Parliament.

“The situation is like a divorce petition and the court is people and Parliament. The party which seeks divorce is always aggressive… the TRS is giving wrong impressions to the people, it is abusing Seemandhra people and flaring up division between the people while people of Telangana do not have hatred against people from Andhra,” he said.

A scientific method was needed to solve the bifurcation issue and his personal opinion was that second SRC was the only solution and his party was also discussing it as an option. “Dragging on an issue is also part of the process, if it yields good result,” Mr. Arun Kumar said.

TRS labelled people of Andhra region as thieves, he said, adding they could not keep quiet and would prove that Government had spent more in Telangana since it was a backward area. We cannot accept the division (of State) with the charge of being a ‘looter of Telangana’ and with plans to take over Hyderabad, the Congress MP asserted.

Mr. Arun Kumar also said that there was an informal discussion in the party about making Hyderabad as the second capital of the country.

This step was suggested by Dr. Ambedkar in 1939 itself to assuage the feelings of South India after he expected North-South friction in future.

The late Rajasekhara Reddy was not aware of irregularities committed by his son, said Mr. Arun Kumar.
