After scrutiny, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has been short-listed for Frost & Sullivan's Green Manufacturing Excellence Awards 2012. After initial scrutiny of the application document, VSP was short-listed for site assessment by Frost & Sullivan. A team has arrived in the city for studying VSP's claim.

The assessment is to evaluate the progress made by Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, the holding company of VSP, towards identifying and implementing sustainable manufacturing practices in its operations and supply chain. As a part of the award criteria, a three-member assessor team is assessing the performance of VSP on various parameters related to energy management, environment management and water management. The team comprising Anand Louie-Sr., Ravindra Kumar Singh and Vineet Joshi, consultants from Frost & Sullivan arrived at VSP on a two-day visit for assessment.


A presentation covering the green initiatives of RINL-VSP was made to the team of assessors on Monday. RINL Director (operations) Umesh Chandra explained the strategies on energy and environment management to the team. The team appreciated the efforts of RINL towards maintaining a clean and green serene atmosphere in plant and township. The team would interact with top management of VSP and share the best practices in other green manufacturing organisations also.
