The Visakhapatnam Port Trust authorities have said between July 2012 and April 14, 2013, 15 medical camps were organised in the One Town area and 4,666 people were treated.
Reacting to the dharna by Chaitanya Sravanthi, an NGO on Wednesday, demanding that the VPT take steps to help the residents and arrest the pollution, they said that the VPT had organised medical camps at Kota Veedhi, near Coastal Battery, Kotta Jalaripeta, Kobbarithota, Gnanapuram, Bowdara Road and Vaada Street.
“It is a continuous process and the camps are being organised every month,” the authorities added.
Besides, at the eye camps conducted, more than 300 people were treated and of them150 as outpatients.
Cataract operations were performed on 26 patients, while 29 were given spectacles and 107 were given medicines, the port officials said.
