About 25,000 people are expected to participate in the Vizag Run 2011 to be conducted here on February 20, Collector J. Syamala Rao said at a press conference on Thursday.

Registration for participation in the run would close on Feb. 15 at different centres located in the city. “The five km run is being organised to promote National integration and encourage the poor children to participate in games and sports. There is also a plan to construct an Olympic Bhavan from the excess funds from the run”, Mr. Syamala Rao said. Additional Joint Collector S. Satyanarayana, who is secretary of the organising committee and others were present.

Film director, actor and music director R.P. Patnaik is the brand ambassador of the run. The run would be conducted in 10 age categories and cash prizes of varying amounts would be presented to different groups.

The run starts at the AU Engineering College ground at 6.30 a.m. and conclude at the R.K. Beach, passing through III Town Police Station, Chinna Waltair junction, RTC depot before entering the beach road. There is registration fee for all except poor school children.

Film producer Mantha Srinivas presented a cheque for Rs. 5 lakhs to the Collector.
