KADAPA: Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, Kadapa MLC and brother of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, continued his indefinite hunger strike in front of the Collectorate for the second day on Wednesday.

Deploring his arrest, a total bandh was enforced in Kadapa city and Pulivendula town. Meanwhile, Congress, Telugu Desam, Praja Rajyam, BC Sangham, Samaikyandhra Parirakshana Samithi, Minorities Association and Kadapa Bar Association members continued their relay hunger strike and expressed solidarity to Mr. Vivekananda Reddy.

The CITU joined the movement by taking out its first protest rally. Telugu Desam functionaries launched an indefinite hunger strike in Badvel, Lingala mandal president Chandrasekhar Reddy took up a fast-unto-death in Pulivendula, former Minister and TDP leader P. Ramasubba Reddy led a massive rally in Jammalamadugu. Congress led a massive rally in Rayachoti. Irate protesters set ablaze the mandal resource centre in Rajampet and damaged two petrol pumps, one in Proddatur and another at Pulivendula. Farmers of Thondur in Pulivendula segment stopped the Chennai-Mumbai Dadar Express in Kadapa railway station.

Educational institutions, government offices, banks, shops and establishments remained closed, and buses, trucks and autorickshaws were off the roads for the fifth consecutive day.
