A State-level youth convention being organised

City Police Commissioner K. Madhusudhan Reddy will flag off Vivekananda Ratham Yatra at PWD grounds on Tuesday.

The yatra, which was flagged off by Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development D. Purandeswari in Hyderabad on September 11, is launched by the Rama Krishna centres across the State to propagate the message of Swami Vivekananda.

In Vijayawada, a series of programmes will be organised as part of the three-day event which includes processions, public meetings, cultural programmes, and a youth convention. Municipal Commissioner Mohammed Abdul Azeem will flag off a procession on the final day of the event.

Siddhartha auditorium will be the venue for public meetings and cultural programmes on Tuesday while on Thursday, the venue will shift to Ghantasala Music College. The convoy of the rath yatra will be stationed at PWD grounds on Wednesday for public viewing.

Cultural competition

The Ramakrishna Mission, Vijayawada, will organise a State-level youth convention on its campus at Sitanagaram on all three days.

The programmes include Jagruthi, a state-level cultural competition (http://www.rkmissionvijayawada.org/jagruti.htm) for intermediate students and Swami Vivekananda Seva Yajna competitions for undergraduate and postgraduate students (http://www.rkmissionvijayawada.org/Sevayajna.html).

The convoy consists of a Vivekananda Ratham, a golden chariot, (a motor vehicle with fibre structure) statues of Vivekananda, Vivekananda Sankharavam, a mobile exhibition on the life, teachings, and contributions of Swami Vivekananda and a mobile bookstall christened Viveka Bheri.


The swamis of Ramakrishna Mission will accompany the ratham and spread the message of Swami Vivekananda in schools and colleges as part of their youth-awakening endeavour.

The Ratham has already travelled through parts of Telangana and Guntur districts besides parts of Krishna district.
