`Climatic changes' attributed to the incidence
ELURU: Collector Lav Agarwal on Friday said the incidence viral fevers in the agency of West Godavari district was under control.
After visiting the fever victims at Mulagalampadu in Buttayagudem mandal, he told reporters that deployment of special medical teams to the vulnerable villages helped check viral fevers. It may be recalled that most of the villages in the three agency mandals of Buttayagudem, Polavaram and Jeelugumilli were affected by viral fevers. As many as 40 people were down with viral fevers in four villages in Buttayagudem mandal while Mulagalampadu alone accounted for half of them. The victims complained of high fevers accompanied by joint pains.
The authorities of the Medical and Health Department attribute the breakout of viral fevers to `climatic changes'. The medical teams comprising six senior medical officers, paramedical staff and community health workers, fanned out into all the high-risk agency villages to check viral fevers. The Collector asked the Medical and Health Department authorities to intensify spraying of malathion from Saturday as a preventive measure in all the villages prone to viral fevers.
