Says he subjected peasants to ‘coercive measures’ during his tenure

Drawing a parallel between her husband Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy tenure and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu’s rule in the past, YSR Congress Party honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma has said YSR had offered a “pro-farmer” regime while Mr Naidu subjected the hapless peasants to “coercive measures”.

Ms Vijayamma was speaking at a well attended public meeting held to mark the entry of Sattupalli former MLA Jalagam Venkat Rao into the party here at Pavilion Grounds on Monday night.

Terming the ongoing Mee Kosam Padayatra of Mr Naidu as a “drama”, she alleged that Mr Naidu earned notoriety for “harsh measures” to recover dues from the farmers and remaining insensitive to the drought ravaged farming community during his stint at the helm of affairs. “He is now talking of extending all help to farmers during his padayatra. He owes an answer as to why he failed to waive the loans of farmers and provide free electricity during his nine year rule,” she said recalling that her late husband demonstrated his commitment to the cause of farmers by waiving loans, providing free power, and sanctioning new loans and other relief measures to the farming community.

"Mr Naidu is spearheading a false propaganda against YSR and my son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy with narrow political machinations," she charged. Jagan has been in jail for nearly 175 days, she said alleging that her son was framed on false charges. He would strive to realise the aspirations of YSR and serve the cause of farmers and other underprivileged sections, she said.

Taking a dig at the Congress government in the State, she alleged that all the schemes including Arogyasri initiated by YSR were systematically diluted by the present rulers.

All sections of people are now facing the onslaught of price rise, power cuts, and other hardships due to the misrule, she charged.
