The Brajesh Kumar Tribunal judgment was hastened by the UPA government to divert the attention of people in Andhra Pradesh so that the decision on the bifurcation of the State could be quickened, alleged YSR Congress honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma.
Addressing farmers and party workers from Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda on the yet to be completed K.L. Rao Sagar Project (Pulichintala project) near here on Wednesday, she said that the UPA government intended to carve out Telangana by December 9 as a birthday gift for its chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
The Tribunal’s judgment was faulty and loaded against Andhra Pradesh, she opined. “It is against the accepted norms of water sharing to stop the flow of surplus water to lower riparian States and distribute it among the upper riparian states,” Ms. Vijayamma pointed out.
In an emotional speech, she said that former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy wanted to see the Pulichintala project operational as part of the larger picture of Jalayagnam. “If anybody deserves credit for the completion of the project, it was YSR, and the present Congress government refuses to acknowledge it,” she said.
