KURNOOL: Collector G. Balaramaiah said the Vidyanidhi, which was set up last year to support the education of the meritorious students from government schools in rural areas, will sponsor 150 students this year.
Talking to mediapersons here on Friday, the Collector said that last year the Vidyanidhi sponsored 88 meritorious students.
Meritorious students drawn from government schools in rural areas who secured more than 500 marks were admitted to corporate junior colleges.
The corporate colleges offered concession in the fee since Collector acted as guardian for the students.
Mr. Balaramaiah said this year the fee was further reduced after a hard bargain with corporate colleges.
He said last year Rs. 75 lakh was raised as donations from the industrialists.
The Collector said no fund raising was required if the corpus reached Rs.5 crore.
