It will only help terror outfits, he says

VISAKHAPATNAM: International General Secretary of Viswa Hindu Parishad Praveen Togadia has decried the importance being given to people who were promoting Jehadis, terrorists and organisations like SIMI that were indulging in disruptive activities, while a ban was being sought on organisations like Bajrang Dal and VHP that were promoting national outlook.

Addressing a media conference here on Monday, he said that when there was not even a single case of conviction against any activist of the Dal or VHP for murder, rape or dacoity anywhere in the country where was the need for any political party to demand a ban on these organisations. He alleged that the only objective of those pressing for the ban was to safeguard the Jehadis, terrorists and organisations like SIMI that were openly revolting against the nation. He recalled that Ram Vilas Paswan, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Laloo Prasad Yadav, who were demanding the ban on Bajrang Dal, had opposed a ban on SIMI in the past.

Dr. Togadia described the Bajrang Dal as an organisation of ‘men of character’ who stood for promoting the nationalistic spirit. He alleged that by killing the nationalistic spirit, the ban supporters were planning to promote Jehadis. He said that neither the Dal nor the VHP had any role in the Orissa violence, which was the result of the conflict between the Kondh tribals and the Christian Missionaries.

He said that the Kondh tribals had been opposing conversions to Christianity for the past 50 years and there was continuous conflict for the last several years. He said that the issue precipitated following the murder of Lakshmananda Swamy, who vehemently opposed conversions to Christianity. He said that newspapers in Orissa had written that the violence was between local tribes and Christians and also Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had also admitted the same.

Replying to a query, he said that throughout the country there was a conspiracy to kill nationalistic forces and even the security forces who were involved in flushing out terrorists were being questioned in a bid to demoralise them.

To another question, he said that any attempt to demolish the Ram Sethu would be through all democratic means.

He said that VHP has been organising 32,000 social service projects all over the country for the last three decades. Later he addressed a public meeting organised by VHP Ukkunagaram branch. VHP leaders M. Hanumantha Rao, TP Venkateswara Rao, O. Neelakantam, K. Srinivasa Rao, Anil Gupta, Ranga Raju, Srinivasa Rao and BJP State council member K. Sailesh Babu were among those attended.
