The selection of the tableau put up by Forest Department as the best of the 15 floats displayed by government departments by the jury at the 64{+t}{+h}Republic Day celebrations here on Saturday did not seem to tally with the popular view.

Widely cheered

The tableau displayed by the Department of Culture, highlighting the theme of 2013, the year of Telugu language and culture, was widely cheered by the audience as it sped past.

This, however, was adjudged the third best, belying their expectations.

Tableau landscape

The landscape on the tableau comprised an elegantly made replica of the famous Kakatiya Thoranam in the middle, a Telugu Thalli statue at one end and granite Lepakshi Nandi installed in the front.

Amidst them, tribal men and tribal women danced in rhythm to a folk song.

On the other hand, that of the Forest Department appeared to be normal for them, containing a mini fibreglass pylon unveiled at Gachibowli to commemorate the World Biodiversity Conference.

The float of the Animal Husbandry Department displaying an Ongole Bull, a cow and calf in the front, was adjudged the second best.
