As many as 50,000 devotees are expected to participate in the five-day celestial wedding of Sri Venugopala Swamy to be held from Thursday at Salihundam in Gara mandal. The temple, constructed during Salivahana period in 1173, was located on the banks of Vamsadhara River and one can find wonderful Buddhist stupams adjacent to the temple.
Annual Kalyanotsvams begin every year on Bhishma Ekadasi day which is considered to be very auspicious for the Kaliyamardana Venugopala Swamy temple, according to temple trustees Suggu Madhu Reddy, Konkyana Muralidhar and K.Venugopal. Temple priests Mahendrada Venkata Ramanacharyulu and M.Venugopalachary said temple authorities made all arrangements for the five-day ritual and it would conclude with Kalyanotsavam on February 25. RTC will run special buses. Revenue and police authorities have made arrangements for devotees for bathing in Vamsadhara. Meanwhile, Mr.Madhu Reddy sought the district administration’s support for developing the temple on par with Simhachalam and Annavaram temples. Recently a road was laid for vehicles to reach them temple atop the hill. So far only devotees go the temple only on steps. Temple trustees Jallu Gowripati Naidu and Gadili Venkataramana were present.
