Congress MLA of Kamalapuram G. Veerasiva Reddy announced his resignation to the Assembly “in the Speaker’s format” and also resigned from the primary membership of Congress on Thursday in the wake of talk of an impending bifurcation of the State.

Announcing it in a media conference in the Kadapa DCC office, he said he was sending the resignation letters to APCC president Botcha Satyanarayana with a request to accept them if the Congress high command favoured bifurcation of the State. He maintained that he would stage a dharna in front of the Assembly Speaker’s chamber and get his resignation accepted, when necessary. Asserting that the people of Rayalaseema were in favour of a united State, Mr. Veerasiva Reddy demanded that all public representatives of Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra quit their posts to express their resentment to the bifurcation moves. The MLA went on to appeal to the people, employees and students to intensify the Samaikyandhra movement to draw the Centre’s attention. Meanwhile, District Grandhalaya Samstha chairman R. Ramakoti Reddy also announced resignation to the post.

During the last three weeks, YSRC MLAs G. Srikanth Reddy (Rayachoti) and K. Srinivasulu (Railway Kodur), Congress MLA of Badvel P.M. Kamalamma, Congress MLC Shaik Hussain, YSRC MLC C. Narayana Reddy and Rayalaseema West Teachers’ MLC B. Pullaiah had submitted their resignation letters to the Samaikyandhra JAC leaders here.
