Right To Information Act will yield the desired results only when public representatives and officials are accountable to the people, Samachara Hakku Prachara Aikya Vedika convenor Putta Surendra Babu said on Sunday.
People can enjoy the fruits of democracy when power is decentralised, he said at an awareness meeting on RTI Act at the YSR Memorial Press Club here.
The three main pillars of democracy – the legislature, executive and judiciary were knee deep in corruption, he alleged.
The ‘vedika' was creating awareness among the people since one year and training programmes would be organised shortly, Mr. Surendra Babu said.
Swarna Prasad was unanimously elected president and Chata Chandrasekhar as general secretary of the vedika's district unit at the meeting. The others elected were vice-presidents G. Guravaiah, P. Obulesu and S. Venkatasubbaiah, treasurer A.V. Ramanaiah and secretaries V. Subba Narasimhulu, N. Sanjeeva Reddy and B. Mridula.
