Students, employees take out protest rally

VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra University Vice-Chancellor L. Venugopal Reddy termed Wednesday's incidents of vandalising the bust of Sir C.R.R. Reddy and an attempt made on Dr. V.S. Krishna's bust on the campus as act of cowardice. In the morning, students and employees took out a rally from the spot in front of the Convocation Hall where the bust of Sir C.R. Reddy was destroyed, to the Central Administrative Office building. The bust of Sir C.R. Reddy in front of the CAO building was cleaned with milk.

Prof. Reddy who returned to city on Friday visited the two places along with the Registrar and other officials. He announced that a bronze bust of founder Vice-Chancellor would be installed soon on the same rostrum in front of the Convocation Hall. "Persons who don't want to see the university function in a smooth way, whose wishes are not fulfilled, people with sick minds and anti-social elements can only resort to this type of dastardly acts. But they will not be spared," the Vice-Chancellor said. Security staff would be strengthened and trained by the State police, he added.
