The Payasi Prachuranalu organised Gurram Joshua’s 42nd death anniversary here on Wednesday. The organisers released a ‘Vachana Gabbilam’ (a prose form Gabbilam poetry written by Joshua) written by Charvaka Ramakrishna. On the occasion, the speakers appreciated Joshua’s work and compared it with that of Viswanatha Satyanarayana’s ‘Veyi padagalu.’ Joshua, however, did not get Jnanpeeth award for his Gabbilam as he was a dalit. In fact, he did not get ‘Ashtana kavi’ post though he made request to Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, the speakers said. Joshua was a trendsetter in Telugu poetry and faced challenges and humiliation, they said. OPDR representative C. Bhaskar Rao, academician Gumma Sambasiva Rao, retired judge Duggirala Satyanarayana Reddy, Basa editor N. J. Vidyasagar, and poet Nukathoti Ravi Kumar spoke.
