279 pilgrims from Chittoor will visit Haj this year

The number of pilgrims going on Haj from Chittoor district has been on a steady increase during the last five years, and this year 279 will be leaving for the pilgrimage in two batches on September 24 and October 6 respectively.

The Chittoor district Haj pilgrimage committee is organising vaccination drive for the pilgrims in Madanapalle, Tirupati and Chittoor. The committee in coordination with the Medical and Health Department personnel is holding a vaccination camp in Chittoor on Thursday.

The Chittoor District Haj Pilgrimage Society president, M. Afzal Khan, said that there is tremendous response to the registration for Haj Yatra this year.

The process began in March last. Special care was taken towards the old and women pilgrims.

“Generally, the 40-day pilgrimage would cost around Rs. 4 lakh per pilgrim when approached through private agencies, but the government’s subsidy will facilitate them to visit the holy site at Rs. 1.8 to Rs 1.4 lakh in two categories per pilgrim. Apart from this, the identity cards issued to them by the committees formed by the government would help them avail free travel facility in Saudi,” he said. Mr. Khan urged all the pilgrims to get vaccinated at their respective divisions and report for their journeys as per the guidelines.
