Telangana Rasthra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao said the people of Telangana will not accept Union Territory status to Hyderabad under any circumstances. Any condition will be an insult to the region’s people, he asserted.

“The 29{+t}{+h}State of the country should have equal rights and powers on par with 28 others and any efforts to impose restrictions on people of Telangana in the matter of their capital will not be tolerated. We are ready for another battle if the Centre tries to compromise the region’s rights on Hyderabad,” Mr. Rao said after the executive committee meeting of the party here on Friday.

The TRS would explain in detail the necessity to give unrestricted powers on Hyderabad to the people of Telangana in its report to the Group of Ministers (GoM).

“Is there any separate law and order mechanism for security and safety of people from others regions in cities like Mumbai or in countries like the USA”, he asked.

Opposing statehood to Telangana at this stage would not be good for anybody as the experiment of Andhra Pradesh had miserably failed, he said.

Security issue

The fears about other regions’ people in Hyderabad were part of a campaign run by Seemandhra leaders, the TRS chief alleged and noted that there were more people from Seemandhra regions outside Hyderabad in Telangana and nobody had any fears of their security or safety.

Reacting to TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s reported statement that Congress president Sonia Gandhi would have to pay her life for dividing Telugus, the TRS president remarked that such words were not expected from a leader of Mr. Naidu’s stature who would always claim that he had ruled the State for nine years.

On heavy crop damage in Telangana districts, he urged the State Government not to discriminate the farmers of the region as it did after the damage during Jal and Nilam cyclones and hailstorm in 2010.

Five teams of the party would visit the affected areas in the region, prepare reports on the damage and submit them to the government.
