Union Minister of State for Textiles Panabaka Lakshmi has instructed officials to take steps for proper utilisation of funds being released by the Central government for improving the living standards of the poor.

Addressing the District Rural Development Agency governing body meeting here on Saturday, Ms. Lakshmi said the Central funds should be fully utilised and records maintained in detail. Negligence in complying with the guidelines would not be tolerated, she warned.

Macherla MLA P. Ramakrishna Reddy said construction of Mandala Samakhya buildings was hampered by the delay in release of funds and remedial action needed to be taken to set things right.

Collector S. Suresh Kumar ordered Panchayat Raj Superintending Engineer to take steps for streamlining the works.

‘Works pending’

Chilakaluripet MLA Prathipati Pulla Rao said rural development works estimated at Rs. 7 crore were pending in his constituency due to paucity of sand. He wanted that the process of paying compensation to farmers who suffered a huge loss due to fire in cold storages be expedited.

Narsaraopet MP M. Venugopala Reddy said the issue of paying compensation for loss incurred in fire accidents in cold storages turned out to be vexatious as the insurance companies cited one problem or the other every day to “escape from responsibility.”

MLC R. Srinivas, MLAs — Yerram Venkateswara Reddy (Sattenapalli), G.V.S.R. Anjaneyulu (Vinukonda), and Y. Srinivasa Rao (Gurazala), ZP CEO R. Jayaprakash Narayan, and DRDA Project Director B. Venkata Reddy participated in the deliberations.
