Muslim Intellectuals Association vice-president Jaffer Amir exhorted young Urdu writers on Sunday to thoroughly study the ancient Urdu literary works.

Speaking in an Urdu literary meeting organised by Urdu Waley organisation in the Municipal Corporation Urdu Girls High School here, he said efforts should be made to regain the Urdu literary glory. He told writers to draw inspiration from Urdu literary critic Iqbal Khusro and Waseela Editor Mohammed Shahid.

Urdu writers and poets Sattar Faizi, Iftekar Jamaal, Sardar Sahil, Anwar Hadi, Younus Tayyab, Salam Shahmiri, Magbul Ahmed, Sadak Vali and Shakeel Ahmed rendered ghazals and songs. Urdu Waley chairman Khasim Ali Khan presided. Urdu drama writer Yousuf Safi called upon Urdu poetry lovers to attend such meetings. Urdu teachers and students also participated.
