“We are the only alternative at Centre”

BJP gearing up for general elections

First list of candidates soon

VISAKHAPATNAM: Bharatiya Janata Party State president Bandaru Dattatreya has said that general elections seemed imminent in view of the developments at the Centre and the failure of the Congress-led UPA Government to control the rising prices.

Addressing a media conference here on Saturday, he said that inflation at 11.05 per cent was the highest in the last 33 years. This was not a sudden development as prices had been rising during the last two years.

Referring to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s threat to resign and the Left parties opposition to such a step, he said that this “drama has been going on for the past two years.” He felt that the UPA Government would crumble under its own weight and the sooner it happened the better it would be for the country. He criticised the Prime Minister for failing to ensure Rs.1,000 MSP for paddy.

Mr. Dattatreya said that the BJP was gearing to meet the forthcoming elections. The first list of party candidates for the Lok Sabha elections would be released by the end of this month.

“BJP jeetega, Bharat jeetega” would be the slogan of the party for the ensuing elections. He said that the BJP was the only alternative to the Congress at the Centre that could provide a stable government. The party would contest all the Assembly and Parliament seats in the State.

Mr. Dattatreya said that the Rajasekhara Reddy rule in the State was marked by corruption, sale of government lands and growth in liquor sales. He said that dharnas and protests would be held at all mandal headquarters to highlight the failures of the State government.
