The All-India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) has asked the Central government to constitute the Second States Reorganisation Commission and place the proposed division of Uttar Pradesh before it along with other such demands in the country. In a statement here, AIMMM president and former MP Syed Shahabuddin and executive committee member Bashiruddin Babukhan welcomed the proposed division of UP into four States.

“Such a comprehensive proposal should be seen in the context of similar demands in various parts of the country and cannot be decided in isolation,” they said. They said finalisation of UP must await the result of 2011 Census. It should also take into account the historical basis of other areas like Rohilkand. They reminded that existence of demands for smaller States in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, Karantaka, etc. are there for consideration.
