To better the medical facilities in the tribal areas in Parvathipuram division, Union Tribal Welfare Minister V. Kishore Chandra Deo has released Rs.7.84 lakh from the MPLAD grant for procuring an ambulance.

The vehicle would be pressed into service from October 2, said ITDA Project Officer Suvarna Panda Das on Wednesday. This would encourage tribal women to opt for institutional deliveries, he felt.

Further, he said medical camps would be conducted at weekly market place on a fixed day for the benefit of tribal people living far away from primary health centres. Anganwadis and health workers would bring women in the advanced stage of pregnancy for check-up and admit them to PHCs for delivery, he said.

Mr. Das said a Girijan Samakhya Bhavan would be built at Parvathipuram at a cost of Rs. 30 lakh. Of the amount, SERP's share would be Rs. 24 lakh and MPLAD Rs. 6 lakh, he added.
