TIRUPATI: After a day-long pitched battle between the local villagers and the inmates of the Kalki Bhagavan ashram, an uneasy calm descended on the ‘abode' of ‘godman', Kalki Bhagavan and his spouse, Amma Bhagavan (Bhagavathi).

The complex witnessed a fluid situation on Tuesday right from the dawn with people from the surrounding villages making a vain bid to storm the high profile complex amid complaints of alleged shady and unsocial activities taking place inside its portals.

The irate villagers before being pushed back by the police and the in-house security, smashed the windscreens of a few vehicles belonging to the ashram, besides ransacking its front office and the information counter.

They also held a dharna later in front of the complex on the Srikalahasti-Tada road demanding the arrest of Kalki Bhagavan and Amma Bhagavan.

What further heightened the controversy was the directions issued on Tuesday by the State Human Rights Commissioner Justice (Retd) Subhashan Reddy to the Chittoor district Collector and the Superintendent of Police to go into the allegations levelled against the ‘Bhagavan' and the ashram management as a whole.

Meanwhile, a heavy police force has been deployed at the ashram and its other installations on Wednesday in the wake of the unruly situation which prevailed yesterday at the scene.
