ANANTAPUR: An undertrial in three dacoity cases allegedly escaped from the prisoners’ treatment ward in the Government General Hospital here on Saturday. One Pichchikuntla Nagesh alias Nageshwar Reddy (25) was admitted to the prisoner’s ward on March 21 with stomach ache and joint pains.

Only a constable Venkatawamy was guarding the ward. On the pretext of attending nature’s call Nagesh went to toilet while Venkataswamy was taking delivery of a drinking water can.

Futile chase

Taking it as an opportunity, Nagesh ran from the toilet to the entrance of wards, pushed aside the constable and ran away.

The constable chased the undertrial from some distance, but in vain.
