HYDERABAD: District Collector Arvind Kumar has directed the Secunderabad Revenue Divisional Officer to initiate appropriate action for closure of unauthorised tanneries and plastic industries in the Bholakpur area.
The Collector who visited Indiranagar and Bholakpur areas in the Musheerabad constituency where viral fever cases were reported on Saturday, said that the drinking water in the areas was polluted with effluents from tannery units.
He asked the RDO to take up the matter with Pollution Control Board for necessary action for closure of polluting units. The Water Board officials were asked to collect water samples for testing and to take remedial measures immediately.
Mr.Arvind Kumar said that so far 69 cases had been reported and six medical camps at Indiranagar, Gangaputranagar, Siddiqnagar, Anjuman College, ITI College and Sunflower school had been set up to check the spread of the fever in the slums.
