In a kind gesture, The Hindu donated umbrellas to the city traffic police. Staff of the organisation handed over 15 umbrellas to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) A. V. Ramana at Kaleswara Rao Market Centre on Saturday. Mr. Rao said that the umbrellas will be arranged at busy junctions, to help the constables protect themselves from sunlight.

He thanked The Hindu management for donating the sunshades to the traffic cops. One Town Traffic Inspector P. Kasi Viswanatham, Sub Inspector R. Rajendra Prasad, ASI K. Durga Prasad and other staff were present. Umbrellas will be arranged at Seethammavari Padalu, K.R. Market, Sithara Junction, Swathi Junction, Milk Project Flyover, Chittinagar, Nethaji Bridge, Bandar Loaks (on highway), Bandar Locks (on M.G. Road), Prabhas College centre, Padavalarevu, Madhuranagar, Krishna Nagar, ITI and Veterinary Junctions.

Sunglasses

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ramana said that about 400 traffic police including Circle Inspectors, SIs, ASIs, head constables, constables and home guards were working in the city.

The police distributed sunglasses to about 150 traffic home guards recently and similar cooling glasses would be issued to all other traffic police personnel also shortly.

Nose masks were being distributed to the traffic police everyday and the City Police was making arrangements to distribute drinking water to the police at all points during summer months. “We advise the police to give priority to their own health first and take steps to prevent dehydration. We request the public to follow traffic rules and help the police in preventing traffic jams and accidents,” said the Additional DCP.

Mr. Ramana handed over the umbrellas to head constables P. Chandrashekar and Gnana Dev and constable K.V. Subba Rao, who were on duty at the K.R. Market.
