Hyderabad: Applying for the right kind of scholarship can present a tricky situation. With a plethora of them available for science streams, the Charles Wallace India Trust Awards focuses on arts, heritage conservation and humanities.

Named after Charles Wallace, co-founder of Shaw Wallace Company, the trust was setup in 1981. The awards are categorised into four types -- fully funded awards, visiting fellowships, Grants for research and visits and grants for doctoral study. Fully funded, the awards take care of international fares, living expenses and fees. These awards are generally given for a period of three months to a year. “Those who are given grants for research and visits spend time in a university for research work or any other study that is related to their work experience. The amount of the grant is based on the stay in the U.K. that could be from three weeks to a month,” says Richard Alford, Secretary of The Charles Wallace India Trust. the trust gives away 12 scholarships of up to a year, nine visiting fellowships and over 20 grants given to the students on short research visit.
