WARANGAL: A two-day national workshop on ‘Recent Advances in Physics’, being organised by the Physics Department of the Kakatiya University began on Monday.
Addressing at the inauguration of the workshop as chief guest Vice-Chancellor Prof. N. Linga Murthy exhorted the participants to keep pace with the latest developments, which would not only enrich their subject knowledge but would also be conducive in classroom teaching.
Delivering the keynote address on ‘Photonics - the science of this century’, Thanjavur PR Institute of Science & Technology Vice-Chancellor Prof. S. Mohan said that photonics is an emerging field of considerable promise and the current century has already been billed as the “Photonic Era”. The range of application of Photonics extends from energy generation through detection to communication and information processing and a variety of tasks beneficial to the society.
Laser, the prime component of Photonics, is an elegant yet awesome tool that has provided a seemingly magic solution to numerous problems since its invention in 1960, he said.
