KARIMNAGAR: Two powerloom weavers and a woman belonging to the weaver community reportedly died of various reasons in Karimnagar and Sircilla towns on Monday.
Police sources said that B Damodar (40), who was reportedly working on powerlooms in Sircilla town, allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide in Kothapalli village on the outskirts of Karimnagar town due to unemployment and ill-health. He is survived by his wife and a daughter.
In another incident, a weaver working in the dyeing unit of the powerloom industry in Sircilla was found hanging to the ceiling in a private hospital in Karimnagar on Monday. Town CI Ganpath Jadhav said that Kokkula Rayamallu (45) consumed cleaning acid and was admitted to a private hospital in Karimnagar on October 15. When the hospital authorities gave him a bill of Rs 17,000 on Sunday, he disappeared and went to Sircilla to raise money to clear the bill.
Later, the hospital authorities telephoned him in the name of an SI and threatened to register a case for disappearing from the hospital without paying the bill. The weaver returned to the hospital on Sunday night and there was a heated argument between him and the hospital authorities.
On Monday morning his body was found hanging to the ceiling. The relatives of the deceased d alleged that it was a homicide and not suicide. When the situation was going out of control, the police rushed to the spot and pacified the relatives and promised to do justice by conducting post-mortem. Meanwhile, a woman belonging to the weaver’s community died of ill-health due to abject poverty in Padmanagar locality of Sircilla town on Monday morning.
