GUNTUR: Two students of Loyoa Engineering College in Guntur district drowned on Tuesday in water flowing out of 26 crest gates of Nagarjuna Sagar Project at Vijayapuri South when they entered the water for a swim.

Fifteen students from the college at Sattenapalle had come to the dam site to watch the water being released from the dam. Five of them entered the water at 2.30 p.m. and got washed away. Fishermen close to the dam saved three of them, while the two others could not be traced.

The Vijayapuri South police said the two were identified as K.V. Srikantha Reddy, 19, resident of Brodipet in Guntur and Desam Venkata Reddy, 20, from RTC Colony in the city.
