Two youths were killed when the tractor on which they were travelling plunged into a water-filled trench at Sitaramanagaram village in Burgumpadu mandal around midnight on Friday. Police identified the deceased as Ramesh, 21, a tractor driver, and his associate Nageswara Rao, 19, of the same mandal.

Sources said that Ramesh lost control of the tractor while passing through a narrow kutcha road and landed the vehicle in a 20 feet deep trench due to poor visibility. Ramesh and Nageswara Rao died instantly under the impact of the mishap.

The police retrieved the bodies of the duo from the trench in the early hours of Saturday. It is suspected that the contractor concerned of a road project allegedly dug the trench and left it uncovered. A case has been registered.
