The city police on Tuesday arrested two persons in connection with different cases and recovered from them 33 motorcycles and gold and silver ornaments worth about Rs. 11 lakh.
District Superintendent of Police G. Srinivas, at a press conference here, charged Sangisetti Venugopal alias Gopal, 25, of Madhava Nagar in Pithapuram with lifting 20 motorcycles from the Two Town area of the city and from Pithapuram and selling them to his friends Gurrala Nageswara Rao, 26, Aganti Koteswara Rao, 28, and Patarlagadda Gopalakrishna, 28, -- all residents of Pithapuram.
The modus operandi of Gopal was to take away motorcycles being parked on roadside by using duplicate keys, shifting them to Pithapuram, and selling the vehicles to his friends.
Mr. Srinivas charged Sangeeta Chakra Rao alias Chakri, 25, of Madhavarayudupalem of Kadiyam, with stealing 13 motorcycles from Rajahmundry, Annavaram, and Narsipatnam areas and selling them with fake records.
He was also charged with stealing gold jewellery weighing 116 grams and silver ornaments weighing 250 grams and a mini auto-rickshaw -- all worth about Rs. 5 lakh. Mr. Srinivas said that Chakri was earlier arrested by the Rajahmundry and Kadiyam police on the charge of stealing motorcycles. He underwent imprisonment.
He was also accused of escaping from the Central Prison in Rajahmundry by giving a slip to the security staff.
