GUNTUR: A gang of 10 villagers hacked two persons in broad daylight in a roadside hotel at Vatticherukuru in Guntur district on Thursday evening.

Velpuri Narasimha Rao, 53, and Velpuri Venkateswarlu, 48, accused No.1 and 2 in the November 2006 Juturi Baazi murder case, came out on bail a month ago along with three other accused and were residing in Vatticherukuru village. On Thursday at 3.30 p.m. when these two men were entering the hotel, father of Baazi, Juturi Sambaiah and nine others allegedly attacked the two leading to death of Venkateswarlu .

The gang, which had come prepared with axes and other deadly weapons allegedly chased Narasimha Rao for about 200 yards and killed him close to the police station, the eyewitnesses said.

Guntur rural deputy superintendent of police B.R.N. Tagore rushed to the spot and arranged a police picket in the village.

Cheating charge

Vijayawada: The Governorpet police on Thursday arrested a 60-year-old man on the charge of cheating.

The police charged Abdul Khader of Kerala with collecting money from the gullible by promising them work permits for Dubai. Following a complaint, the police raided a lodge in Governorpet, where he checked-in, and arrested him. A cheating case was registered.
