Police suspect they drowned after consuming liquor

HYDERABAD: Two friends, who reportedly got heavily drunk on Monday night, were found dead on Musi river bed near Shivaji bridge at Afzalgunj on Tuesday night.

Police suspect that the duo, identified as S. Suresh Kumar, 20, and S. Pandu, 22, might have drowned. It was not yet clear as to why they went to the river bed. Preliminary investigations revealed that Pandu, a resident of Devinagar had gone to Suresh's house in Rajaram Devdi in old city on Monday evening. They went out and returned in an inebriated condition.

Some time later, they left again on a bicycle. As Kumar did not return on Monday night, his family members started searching for him from Tuesday morning.

Around 10 a.m., they spotted the bicycle on the footpath of the bridge. They rushed to the riverbed only to notice bodies of Kumar and Pandu floating in the water. There were no external injuries on the bodies. Pandu had folded his trousers up to his knees indicating that he tried to wade through the water. Police registered a case of suspicious death under Section 174. .
