Tension prevailed at Nalla Mallareddy Engineering College campus at Narapally in Ghatkesar on city outskirts on Saturday when student groups of two colleges clashed with each other during a sports meet organised by the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University.
Three persons were injured in the clash that erupted over a volley ball match. An argument ensued between representatives of St. Mary's Group of Engineering Colleges and those of the NMEC over the number of teams to be fielded at the sports meet. While the dispute was pending, the team of St. Mary's college was defeated by Srinidhi college in a volley ball match, the Malkajgiri ACP, Ch. Radhakishan Rao, said. After the match was over, the physical directors of St. Mary's college went to the office room of NMEC to seek some clarifications about the match resulting in altercation. It is yet to be ascertained what exactly transpired afterwards but a physical director of NMEC was assaulted and he sustained injuries,” the ACP said. As word spread about the assault, student groups too gathered there and attacked one another. Two more students sustained injuries.
