VISAKHAPATNAM: The timely detection of two claymore mines by the CRPF Police at R.V. Nagar under G.K. Veedhi Police Station limits on Saturday prevented what could have been a major disaster, according to Superintendent of Police Vinit Brijlal.

The mines, weighing 10 kg each, were planted by the Maoists on May 10 to target the police party. The CRPF party, led by a Circle- Inspector, was conducting combing operations at G.K. Veedhi when he noticed the mines and safely removed them. Had the mines exploded it would have resulted in loss of lives of the tribals. Vinit Brijlal suspected that more mines could also have been planted at other areas and appealed to the people to inform the police if they have any information.
