The West Godavari district administration has introduced a turn system for supply of canal water to the paddy fields in the rabi from Friday in view of water deficit in the Godavari river.

According to an official press release issued by the Irrigation Department, each canal remains open during a turn spanning up to 10 days letting water into the fields under its ayacut.

All the other branch canals will be closed during the period. The release appealed to the ayacut farmers for judicious use of water and management of the crisis in active collaboration with the Water Users Associations concerned.

As per the decision of the District Irrigation Development Advisory Board taken at a meeting in the first week of December last, the whole delta with an ayacut of 5.29 lakh acres was stabilised with an assured water supply in the rabi in spite of alarming levels in the river.
