A trade union leader allegedly made an abortive attempt to set himself ablaze in Manuguru on Wednesday after a section of miners proceeded to duty defying his appeal to abstain from work in view of the ongoing Telangana JAC sponsored indefinite strike by the miners of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited. According to sources, a local leader of AITUC approached some miners, who were on their way to work in an opencast project during the first shift on Wednesday morning. He tried to dissuade them from attending to duties in vain.
Later, he doused himself with petrol and made a vain attempt to set himself on fire. The passersby foiled his bid and shifted him to a local hospital.
