The Tirumana Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) will be conducting ‘Sri Srinivasa Veda Vidwat Sadassu’ on January 15 at Rajahmundry.

The day-long programme to be held at the Arts College grounds will begin at 8 a.m. and go on till late in the evening. The sadassu would start with a two-hour long recitation of Vedic mantras, covering all the four Veda and five ‘sakhas’ by a battery of renowned Sanskrit pundits and scholars besides a lecture cum demonstration on the greatness and importance of the mantras.

In the evening between 4 and 6 p.m., there would be a religious discourse on six sastras followed by felicitation to 18 Sanskrit scholars by the TTD authorities marking the conclusion of the programme.

Meanwhile the TTD is also gearing up to conduct on a grand scale its annual “Gau Mahothsavam” (cow worship fete) at its sprawling dairy farm here on January 15, on the eve of Sankranti. All the customary practices which mark the Sankranti celebrations, such as Gobbemmalu, folk dances, bhajans, kolattams, Thulasi puja besides special puja to cows, elephants, horses and the oxen which are inmates of the TTD stables would mark the festivities.

There would also be mass feeding of the cattle in which public also could take part. The programme also includes Vedic recitations and pujas in the Venugopalaswamy temple inside the dairy. Artistes belonging to the TTD’s Annamacharya Project, Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishad, Dasa Sahithya Project etc would render programmes for the benefit of the visiting devotees.
