Jnanapeeth awardees to participate in the three-day programme

Seminars, literary meets will mark the eventDrama troupes would be invited to enact plays on Mahabharatham

TIRUPATI: Book lovers and literature-savvy denizens of Tirupati can look for a feast to their aesthetic senses. Three Jnanapeeth award winners -- Dr. C. Narayana Reddy, Girish Karnad and U.R. Ananthamoorthy -- will participate in a three-day literary festival to be organised by the TTD from March 18 in connection with the release of the 'Kavithraya Mahabharatham.'


Mr. N. Muktheswara Rao, Joint Executive Officer of the TTD, which is bringing out the editions said that the festival meet would be marked by seminars, literary meets, cultural programmes, the theme being the relevance of Mahabharata to the contemporary society. He said the famous theatre group, "Surabhi" and other drama troupes would be invited to enact plays on Mahabharata themes besides plays in Sanskrit and Telugu as well. To further the propagation of Mahabharata, those who gave discourses on the epic in rural areas via art forms would be honoured. Mr. Rao said that 12 topics would be stressed upon at the meet and essay writing contests. Three winners would be given cash awards of Rs.5,000, Rs.3,000 and Rs.2,000 .

Annamayya kritis

It was decided to organise mandal, district, zonal and State level competitions in Annamayya kritis. Nadaswaram vidwans who learnt and played his kritis also would be felicitated.
